Going Global: Ritual Spellbook

Sometime last November, a couple of players walked in the local hobby store, carrying a pair of flashy collection albums, eager to show them off to anyone with eyes and ears. As a person of distinct curiosity, I looked at pages after pages, loaded with ridiculous amounts of cancels in one and even more basic mountains in the other – global collections seemed to be the new thing.

I won’t try to deny I was extremely jealous at the time, but what was more than that, was that I knew I had to join the line and take this little thing to the next level.

Later on that night, having done my basic research, I narrowed down my options to four elementals, the main being the Fire Elemental, simply because it’s sexy as hell (see what I did there?)! What was bothering me though was that there wasn’t a satisfying variety of illustrations for any of the cards and the final result would look quite repetitive. Other people I talked to about the matter, suggested cards like Rampant Growth or Stream of Life but come on… a green card, why would I roll with a green card? I needed something sexy and/or black! Having tapped all of my resources, I finally decided on common black card that fit my criteria quite well; reasonable cost, plenty of reprints with a number of different illustrations and an appropriate character.

Three months later, my collection has reached a satisfying level and I feel like showing it off in pride! These are some basic photos of my hardcover leather bound ritual spellbook! I’ll post more photos and details about the collection later on but do enjoy these for now!

Pig Hunters

Some time ago, the big boss suggested that we create a range of alters featuring popular media and geek/gaming culture, to attract a larger crowd and begin moving away from the casual extensions. You may have already seen some of the other artists’ work; Mario brothers posing with Boos and Star Wars toys.

Originally I was thinking about LoZ themed elves and fairies but then they struck me, those five angry budgies I loathe so much! So here is my turn with these pesky little pig-hunters!
